Our Ethos
Land. is a digitally driven custom furniture company dedicated to the sustainable production of custom home furnishings.
We are acutely aware that the resources of the land are finite and as global citizens we have a responsibility to tread lightly. The traditional business model of off-shore manufacturing, high carbon-emitting transportation, warehouse storage and the subsequent disposing of deadstock furniture is no longer viable.
Land. is consciously challenging the furniture manufacturing process at each step, offering customers an alternative way to purchase furniture, limiting their impact on the earth’s resources whilst expressing themselves completely.
Our Showroom
Land.’s digital showroom is home to over 6,000 home and office pieces. Our 3D technology allows us to keep this volume of inventory without impacting the earth through the manufacture, freight, storage and display of floor stock items that may end up going into landfill.
Our Makers
Land. works closely with local like-minded manufacturers, craftsmen and collaborators. Each of our manufacturing partners share our vision of challenging the traditional industry convention through our fast, Australian-made, zero-waste and on-demand production model.
Supply Chain
We work exclusively with local craftsmen to make on demand. As a digitally-native brand we keep our carbon footprint as low as possible. We print, cut, hammer and sew when you order - we don’t keep inventory on hand that may end up in landfill. Your order is then delivered directly from our manufacturing partner, limiting the carbon emissions required to get your custom piece to you.
Fabric
A foundational aspect of Land. was our desire to reduce our impact on the environment. Where possible, we use Australian-made fabrics, and we are continually working towards our goal of being 100% made in Australia. Our Sydney-based printing partner only uses non-toxic reactive dyes on quality linens, Australian wool and cotton. We only print our fabrics once an order has been placed, meaning that we are not sitting on rolls and rolls of fabric that may end up as deadstock.
Packaging
You may notice when you receive your Land. item that it comes without a swing tag. As a digital showroom, there is no need for a physical swing tag displaying branding, barcode, price and size so we have decided to remove them from our items completely - one less single-use item that will immediately be disposed of.
Our small items are shipping in a comPOST satchel made by innovative NZ company, The Better Packaging Co. These satchels are made from renewable corn starch with a binding agent, are non-GMO and are certified biodegradable in home compost within 180 days.
We wrap our larger items in second, third, fourth… hand plastic—this is why the wrapping may come with imperfections. We encourage you to reuse rather than discard it as we continue to search for a more sustainable solution.
Our branding collateral is made by the brand noissue. It is made using soy-based inks, on FSC-certified paper, which are acid, sulphur, and lignin-free. Our tissue paper is 100% compostable, recyclable, and made from recycled materials.
